Teacher Feedback: Contents Page

This is my teacher feedback. Since then, I have been working on another contents page, which I have made drastic improvements on. However, I will take on board these comments and make my layout more conventional by including a box template.
I need to put a caption on my main picture of Sabrina, so that the reader knows what it's about and include photo credits, as that is conventional. I also need to include more pictures and make the main story around page 20, as it isn't conventional for the double page spread article to be so far back in the magazine. I also need to move the text off the image and place it at the bottom.
Overall, I need to make my contents page a box layout so that it looks neater and more organised. I need a minimum of three images and could do with including more pages with page numbers.

Contents Page Draft 2

This is my second draft. I haven't filled up all of the spaces on the page yet, but this shows you the type of idea I'm going for, such as the colour scheme and how the design is similar to the front cover, so that you know it's part of the same magazine. I'm going to include the competition from the front cover with a picture so that the readers are interested in finding out more. I will have my main image to the right and make the subheadings: "On the cover" and "Features" in the same font and colour as the cover, so that it creates a house style.

Contents Page Draft 1

This is my first contents page draft. It's very basic at the moment, but there's some idea of what colours I'm going to use and the type of layout that I'm thinking about. I am going to stick to the house style of my front cover, as I have used the same colours so you can tell it's part of the same magazine. I have made my page numbers bold as to stand out and catch your eye, so that the pages are easier to find for the reader. In my final draft, I am going to make it a lot more detailed and include more images and page numbers; this is just some idea of how I'm going to approach my contents page.

Final Front Cover

This is my final front cover. I have made the background behind the masthead slightly opaque so that it doesn't look as solid and I have acted on the feedback that I received.

Feedback: Front Cover

Teacher

- Make your plug higher so it's in the upper left hand corner
- You only need one of those stories along the bottom, get rid of the 'an interview with....'
- Make the box 'a time line full...' more of a box and place it below the kiss so its a side feature still within the pale red box.
- Because you are removing one red box you can move your main story down a little so the 'celebrating the 20th...' is easier to see.

Front cover masthead might look better if the black background was opaque, or maybe without black background but instead filling in the dots in black.

I will make some more changes to my front cover based on this feedback. I will make my plug higher and get rid of one of the pale red boxes. I will also move the text about 'Sabrina' down slightly. Also, I'm going to change the masthead as I realised that it looks too 'solid', therefore I will act on my peer feedback and improve the visual quality.

Front Cover Draft 5

I have changed a variety of things and I have acted on my feedback that I received from my teacher and my peers. I have made the masthead much bigger and added a black background behind it so that it stands out more and doesn't get lost on the newspaper background. I've also brought Sabrina forward so she's slightly in front of the masthead, as this is conventionally what magazines do. I have changed the font of my cover lines so that they look slightly more conventional and stand out; they're also slightly bigger. I have added semi-opaque red graphics behind the selling line along the bottom and the text underneath 'Sabrina' so that they don't get lost on the newspaper background. I've also changed them from going in a diagonal as I realised that it would look better going horizontal; I think it looks more professional now that I've acted on the advice I was given. Overall, I think I've improved the cover drastically.

Peer Feedback (Blog & Front Cover)

I have taken into account what everyone has said and I'm willing to make changes to improve. I'm going to maybe make my price smaller, space things out more and make the artist's name stand out more. This way, it will improve my magazine as feedback is very important. I'm glad everyone liked my front cover in general though.
